Phénomena is a bilingual interdisciplinary event produced by Les Filles électriques that has been based in the Mile-End for the past 14 years.
Our goal is to introduce emerging practices and unclassifiable and atypical approaches. The Festival presents whimsical acts, image, shadow, and object theatre, tableaux-vivant, cabarets, art happenings, performance dance, art action performances, experimental music, and poetic installations using both digital and analog technologies.
Since its creation in 2012, Phénomena has become a platform of choice for a community of emerging, independent, and extravagant artists. We draw inspiration from Georges Méliès, inventor of the first special effects for cinema, at once illusionist, actor, director, and decorator.
On this year’s menu: a hundred artists and 35 shows at La Sala Rossa, Casa Del Popolo, ESPACE GO, a vacant factory in Griffintown, under the Saint-Laurent/Van Horne viaduct and in the public spaces of the Mile-End.
Phénomena has the distinction of being an avant-garde and daring festival that reaches both an initiated and an uninitiated audience. Our shows are presented at reasonable prices—which allows us to take risks!
Welcome to our world!
