Carte blanche to Fanfare PourpourFriday, Feb. 13 to Thursday, Feb. 19, 11:00 pm What better way to keep the party going than with a series of cartes blanches hosted by musicians from La Fanfare Pourpour? They were given free rein to put together the intriguing and inspiring line-ups that will warm up the winter nights all week long. Here are their choices for the week: La FANFARE POURPOUR is a collective that emerged in 1995 from its earlier incarnations as L’Enfant Fort and La Pouet Pouet Band. Over the years, the group has grown to embrace several young musicians (Venba, Del Fabbro, Poizat, Altobelli) and veteran musicians from the jazz and new-music scenes (Guilbeault, Derome, Vendette, Tanguay). The collective now has 15 members, aged 22 to 70. They are musicians, actors, graphic designers, students, a radio host, a computer scientist, and a set designer and they’re in it for the sheer pleasure of making music together. Their music is spontaneous and infectious, expressing a wonderful turmoil and a contagious joy; it is lyrical, poetic, cinematographic and rhythmic. The collective has performed at many events, including the Cabarets de la Pleine lune organized by François Gourd. They have played the soundtrack to many love stories and sparked several famous coups de foudre that last today. The FANFARE will launch its second album on Monday, March 22, 2004, at the Lion d’or.
