If you've got a passion for words and you want to join a group of artists who share the same
fire, for six days you can! Come and be part of over a dozen activities and events celebrating the
spoken word in all its guises.
Tuesday February 26th at 5PM: Launch of the Voices of the Americas Festival
with Jean-Pierre Ronfard and Petr Baran. (Sergent recruteur, 4650 St. Laurent — free admission)
Thursday February 28th from 2:30 to 4:30PM: Carole Boucher, an officer of the
Canada Council for the Arts, will be coming to speak on the Council’s ãSpoken and Electronic Wordä
program. A question period will follow. (Casa del popolo, 4873 St. Laurent — free admission)
Wednesday February 27th and Friday March 1st, 2:30-4:30PM: Round-table
discussions with experts on mixing words with music and new media (Casa del Popolo, 4873 St.
Laurent - free admission)
Wednesday February 27th and Friday March 1st: A “Streeteaters” open-mic with
hosts Paula Belina and Larissa Andrusyshyn; an open mic poetry slam hosted by Bob Loblaw and Johnny
Cheesecake (Sergent Recruteur, 4650 St. Laurent — free admission; $50 prize).
Saturday March 2nd from 10AM — 1PM. A workshop on voice conducted by Trisha
Pope (The workshop costs $10 and is open to the first 12 participants who sign up for it.
Registration is from February 15th to 26th at the Casa del Popolo, 4873 St. Laurent).
And from Tuesday February 26th to Sunday March 3rd, every night at 8PM, the
Cabarets…! For six days you can come and experience a whirl of emotions in the company of
over sixty poets, storytellers, actors, performers and multi-media artists, including Patrick
Goddard, Laura Mitchell, Mia Brooks, Kaie Kellough, Mike Burns, Bob Bourdon, Fortner Anderson, Jake
Brown, Mary Elizabeth Grace, Corey Frost, Victoria Stanton, Catherine Kidd & DJ Jack Beets, Ian
Ferrier & Bryan Highbloom (sax), Poetry/Jazz improv with musicians André Asselin (bass), Will
Glass (drums) and Jesse Levine (keyboard), Alexis O’Hara, Quadraceptor, Nah-ee-lah, Norman Nawrocki
